Every day, humans try to occupy themselves to avoid boredom. Even in smaller everyday tasks, humans try to find a way to have fun…even on the toilet. Some people may be browsing TikTok or Instagram to pass the time while sitting on the john.
Not only will you feel satisfied after using the bathroom, but you’ll also feel satisfied finishing an Angry Birds level. Everyone has a unique game to play on the toilet to pass the time. Benjie Pabon, a sophomore at Colonia High School stated, “Talking Tom is a great game to play on the toilet because of the minigames you can play within the app.”
Here are five of the most popular apps among teens to fill the time while on the porcelain throne.
TikTok
TikTok is a social media application that allows users to watch, create, and send short videos. Users can discover genres of their interest and like and comment on videos. Teens have used TikTok as an outlet to express themselves and connect with other creators.
Wallaroo finds that TikTok is available in over 150 countries, has over 1 billion users, and has been downloaded over 200 million times in just the United States alone.
TikTok is incredibly addicting because of its algorithm. Feedough states, “…the algorithm test out related but different content to see if you like that and to keep you interested.” The more you watch certain content, the more TikTok will give you similar content. Scrolling through the videos you love makes time go by sooner than you realize.
Nick Davila, a senior at Colonia High School questions the positive influence of the app. “It abuses the shortened attention span of the modern teenager through its incredibly short videos…the reason it works is that social media is geared towards instant gratification.”
Subway Surfers
Subway Surfers is a single-player game produced by Kiloo. The objective of the game is to outrun a train inspector while dodging oncoming trains and objects.
